New York State residents can now block access to their credit reports with these simple steps:

Details of the New York State Security Freeze Law

Write a certified or overnight US postal service letter to all 3 credit bureaus, asking to freeze access to their report:

Experian Security Freeze

Consumers will then be assigned a PIN from each agency, allowing each individual to open his or her credit record for inspection.

Each time a consumer wants his or her credit to be inspected, it will cost $5.00.

The freeze can be lifted for a specified period of time or the report can be made available to individually named creditors.
